Bye Bye Ben Jr.

Where is Dr. Jack Kevorkian when you need him?
First it was the very sad news that Bill "Doo Rag" Greely was leaving Keeneland.
Now comes word that  Ben Walden, Jr. is leaving Vinery.
If this keeps up Injun Chuck is gonna be on a 5-Prozac-a-day diet.
These are both serious setbacks and Keeneland and Vinery are gonna suffer from the loss of these two pioneers in the thoroughbred industry.

Free Food At The
September Sale

I'll bet that if Billy Reed, of the Lexington Herald Misleader knew how much free food there was floatin' around at this sale, he'd be out here writin' stories every day.
This years food has been exceptional with Mill Ridge Farm and Ms. Alice Chandler's famous rum cake leading the way.
Alphabet Jones' Walmac International is always catered by Furlongs and a great spot to get a free meal during the sale.
One down note is the Vinery, whose line of credit with the local Papa Johns Pizza Parlor has been revoked.
So Ben Walden, Jr. went out and bought 300 frozen pizzas to get them through the sale.  Vinery puts them in a portable microwave oven and then serves them to prospective buyers, but they just ain't as good as the Papa Johns pizzas were.

Gainsborough Farm Press Release

Moments after Sheikh Mohammed had won a fierce bidding war with Coolmore for Hip #503 (the Kris S. colt that sold for $3.9 million) Harley "Tow Truck" Clemmons called a news conference at Gainsborough Farm.
Harley Clemmons announced that Sheikh Mohammed plans to pin-hook the colt in next year's Fasig-Tipton Calder 2-year-old in-Training Sale.
Mr. Clemmons reports that the colt will be sent to Dubai to begin preparation for next year's Two-year-old in-Training Sale.  If he can go one furlong in 10 4/5 or 11 flat in Dubai, he will be able to work in 9 seconds flat at Calder for an eighth of a mile.
If Hip #503 goes to Calder next winter and works in under 10 seconds, one of those big money guys like Buzz Chase will pay 20 or 30 million dollars for him.
Then, if the Kris S. colt goes on to be an exceptional two-year-old, Sheikh Mohammed will buy the colt back and start pointing him for the 3-year-old classics.

Malone's
The Best Steaks in "606"

Brian McCarty and every one at Malone's are very proud of the fact that they have become the #1 place for steaks in Lexington and all of Central Kentucky.
The local racing community has really taken to Malone's because every time Injun Chuck goes in the joint we see nothin' but owners, breeders, trainers and one extra large Sallee Van executive named, Don "Moon" Gamble.
To get to Malone's just take New Circle Road to Tates Creek and you will be two furlongs from the Lansdowne Shops where Malone's is located.  With so many people in town for the Keeneland Sale, parties of five or more should definitely call ahead for reservations (606) 396-7500.

The Ides of September

It ain't gonna be long before the first-crop of Ide (Forty Niner-Maytide) will be showing up at Keeneland in September.
There ain't no way Ide is not gonna throw top class runners.
The Forty Niner influence in new stallions has been nothing short of sensational in recent years.
And let's not forget that Ide was a very good racehorse.
As a 2-year-old Ide was weighted at 121 pounds on the Experimental Free Handicap.
Ide won 7 consecutive races and 5 were stakes races, 4 of those were graded stakes races.
Ide won the Fort Springs Stakes and 4 graded stakes: the Iroquois, the Rebel, the Southwest, and the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes.
Ide ran the fastest 8 ½ furlongs ever by a 2-year-old at Churchill Downs.
This here is Injun Chuck talkin' to ya.  If Ide was you, Ide be keepin' my eye out for the Ide yearlings, coming up at Keeneland in September.
