Don "Moon" Gamble Wants
To Learn About Fine Wines
One of our top informants tell us that Don "Moon" Gamble has enlisted wine connoisseur and Lexington's only GOOD equine issuance agent, Sylvester Kiger, to teach him all he can about fine wines.
Syl Kiger's first wine lesson with Don "Moon" Gamble was to explain to Moon that you can't gulp fine wine down 2 and 3 gallons at a time like he does that Crown Royal and Smirnoff 100-proof vodka.
Now there's a man who knows his fine wines.

Donnie Robinson Addicted
To Sleep
Donnie Robinson, from Winter Quarter Farm, has gone to Rogers Beasley and asked that starting times for the Keeneland September and November Sales be moved back to noon instead of 10:00 a.m.
You see, not many people know this, but Donnie Robinson has got the dreaded Bob Baffert disease.
About 9:00 a.m. is the earliest they both get out of bed in the mornin'.
These horse sales that start at 10:00 a.m. are sure tough on ol'Donnie who usually likes to stay out and run the streets until 2 or 3 in the morning.
So if you go by the Winter Quarter Farm consignment and Donnie Robinson ain't there, just make yourself at home and feel free to look at any horse you like.
But if you need to see Donnie Robinson personally, better stop by the barn about 2:30 or 3:00 p.m. in the afternoon.

Pat Day Didn't "Lose" His Whip,
He Dropped It
Pat Day as great as he is, has never been accused of being a "stick rider".
Well, this past weekend his stick cost him some big money.
First of all Pat Day dropped his whip on Vicar in the Grade Two, Jerome Handicap on Saturday and was 2nd, beaten a head or a neck, by Doneraile Court.
On Sunday, Pat Day had stick problems of another nature.
As Pat Day was charging from far back to win Woodbine's $1,000,000 Atto Mile on Hawksley Hill, he accidentally hit Rob'n Gin across the face with his whip.
The Woodbine stewards then accidentally disqualified Hawksley Hill and accidentally fined Pat Day $1,000 for the rules infraction.
So now when the Daily Racing Form chart reads: Doneraile Court's rider "Lost His Whip", you'll know that
ain't right.
The correct wording should be that Pat Day "dropped" his whip. Because if Pat Day had truly lost his whip at Belmont Park on Saturday, he would not have gotten in all that trouble at Woodbine on Sunday.

Dear Moon
Dear Moon:
My favorite time during the September Sale is when all my old buddies from Texas show up at Keeneland.
You know, I must say that Texans by far are the roughest, toughest people on earth.
I remember in my younger days when me and my cowboy friends would stay out all night and get drunk and fight like there was no tomorrow. We never lost a fight and would take on the meanest, biggest people we could find.
But since moving to Kentucky I just haven't been able to have fun like that cause you hardboots ain't all that tough.
Why do you suppose it's that way?
Signed,
J.T.L. Jones, Jr.
Walmac International
Dear Alphabet Jones:
LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING!
You need to read the history books.
As a matter of fact there were no famous Texans at the Alamo. When Santa Anna attacked San Antonio the entire population of Texas fled to Oklahoma.
If it had not been for all those hillbillies from Kentucky and Tennessee who showed up to fight at the Alamo, you Texans would be Mexicans!

Shane Sellers
Cost Running Stag All Chance
In The Grade One Woodward Handicap
Leave it to a jock to screw it up.
Thanks to Shane Sellers, Running Stag had no chance in last Saturday's Grade One, $500,000 Woodward Stakes at Belmont Park.
Don't get Injun Chuck wrong here. Shane Sellers didn't ride a bad race on the Philip Mitchell-trained 5-year-old son of Cozzene.
A week or so ago Shane Sellers went by Running Stag's barn and gave the two chaps in charge of his care a thousand dollars a piece.
According to our top informants, the two stable hands took the money into Manhattan and had themselves a big time for the next 2 or 3 days while their boss was back in Great Britain.
During that time, the only way Running Stag could get any food or water was to jump over his stall door and out into the shedrow which is apparently what he did until the stable lads returned from their 3-day party.
After Running Stag would find food and water he would jump back into his stall.
Well, Running Stag was so exhausted from jumping out of and then back into his stall, his legs were like rubber for the Woodward Handicap.
If that ain't reason enough to fire a jockey, Injun Chuck don't know what is.

The Ides of September
It ain't gonna be long before the first-crop of Ide (Forty Niner-Maytide) will be showing up at Keeneland in September.
There ain't no way Ide is not gonna throw top class runners.
The Forty Niner influence in new stallions has been nothing short of sensational in recent years.
And let's not forget that Ide was a very good racehorse.
As a 2-year-old Ide was weighted at 121 pounds on the Experimental Free Handicap.
Ide won 7 consecutive races and 5 were stakes races, 4 of those were graded stakes races.
Ide won the Fort Springs Stakes and 4 graded stakes: the Iroquois, the Rebel, the Southwest, and the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes.
Ide ran the fastest 8 ½ furlongs ever by a 2-year-old at Churchill Downs.
This here is Injun Chuck talkin' to ya. If Ide was you, Ide be keepin' my eye out for the Ide yearlings, coming up at Keeneland in September.

Vinery On Wednesday
Hip #3714
Here's a colt that is a whole lot of animal to be in Book Six.
Hip #3714 is a chestnut colt from the 1st crop of multiple Grade One winner, Tinners Way.
Hip #3714 looks like a colt that could turn out to be any kind of racehorse and his sire was a millionaire from the last crop of the great Secretariat.
Hip #3714 comes from the same female line that produced multiple Graded stakes-winner, Wonders Delight (9 wins, $481,521).
Hip #3714 is one of the best-looking colts that will go through the ring on Wednesday and if you don't check him out, you're missing a shot to buy a real nice colt.
Go by Barn 18 and let the folks at Vinery show you Hip #3714, who sells on Wednesday.

Party Manners Yearlings Are Awesome
Claude Ray McGaughey told Injun Chuck that Party Manners was one of the best horses he ever had his hands on. Mike Smith told Injun Chuck that Party Manners was one of the best critters he ever sat on.
Party Manners had a license to be a good horse, being by Private Account, out of Duty Dance, one of Ogden Phipps' very best broodmares.
Party Manners won 6 of 10 starts including the Grade 3, Widener Handicap at nine furlongs.
Party Manners' 1st-crop are yearlings and are staring to show up at public action.
If you are looking for a good horse, and who ain't, pay close attention to these colts and fillies by Party Manners at Keeneland in September.
He could be lightnin' in a jug.

1/2-Sister To Naughty
In Book 6
Hip #3859
Ya don't want to leave this sale too early cause there is a 1/2-sister to Naughty selling on the sale's last day--Hip #3859.
Naughty won her first 5 in a row including two stakes, the Queen City Oaks and the Tall Stack, defeating colts.
In her first start outside of Ohio, Naughty ran a game 2nd in the Summertime Promise stakes at Hawthorne on Labor Day. Naughty is gonna be even better next year and will be a monster on the turf.
Hip #3859 is by Wild Zone, out of a Halo mare.
When Hip #3859 gets in she will be Barn 30 in the Judy Klosterman consignment.
You are sure not gonna find many around like her that late in the sale. Better take advantage of it.

Malone's
The Best Steaks in "606"
Brian McCarty and every one at Malone's are very proud of the fact that they have become the #1 place for steaks in Lexington and all of Central Kentucky.
The local racing community has really taken to Malone's because every time Injun Chuck goes in the joint we see nothin' but owners, breeders, trainers and one extra large Sallee Van executive named, Don "Moon" Gamble.
To get to Malone's just take New Circle Road to Tates Creek and you will be two furlongs from the Lansdowne Shops where Malone's is located. With so many people in town for the Keeneland Sale, parties of five or more should definitely call ahead for reservations (606) 396-7500.

Watch out For The Yearlings By
Hermitage Farm Stallion, Pembroke
For years Injun Chuck has referred to Pembroke as "the world's fastest horse".
Why? Cause he ran 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf in 1:00 2/5 that's why. In case you're wonderin'; that is a world record.
Pembroke was a successful critter on both sides of the big pond.
Pembroke is by Gone West, out of College Bold, the dam of Nasty and Bold and Told.
Pembroke's first-crop are 2-year-olds this year and he has already had SIX (6) winners in 1999.
His upcoming yearlings are exceptional and you should make a point to look at each and every Pembroke that goes into the sales ring.
There are just too many things to like about both the colts and fillies by Pembroke selling at Keeneland in September.
See for yourself.
