Lane's End Farm Day

Lanny Kornhorst

Arrested

KTA horsemen's representative Lanny Kornhorst, was detained by Secret Service Agents on Thursday afternoon outside the Kentucky Derby Museum at Churchill Downs.
Apparently, Mr. Kornhorst was on Central Avenue, wearing a hardhat and carrying a sigh that read: "Trump and Offa in 2000."
This was at the same time when Vice-President, Al Gore, was attending a fundraiser in the Derby Museum.
Secret Service Agents quickly seized Mr. Kornhorst and whisked him downtown for questioning.
When the questioning was over, all the Secret Service Agents were wearing Trump and Offa in 2000 pins on their lapels and even gave Lanny a $20 bill so he could catch a cab ride home.

Good News For
Kentucky Derby Fans

If we can endure one more year of Jim McKay and ABC Sports, we will get a chance to see the Kentucky Derby on TV in a much better light.
Tom Hammond, Dick Enberg and Mike Battaglia, now that sounds more like it.
So now the folks at home will see the Kentucky Derby on the same network that now bring us Breeders' Cup Day.  That's the way it ought to be.

Churchill Downs

Ain't Never Gonna Be Confused
With Fort Knox

Some of the stories that come across Injun Chuck's information network are truly unbelievable.
But you can believe this one cause its true.
Some weeks back a Churchill Downs employee named Steve "Rat" Terry was working the late cleanup shift at the Sports Spectrum when he found a money bag that had been abandoned on a mutual line.
Our informants tell us the bag of money contained between $50,000 to $80,000.
Steve Terry, aka "Rat" does not usually work at the Sports Spectrum but was on this particular night.  Our informants also tell us that Rat was on his last probationary warning and would be "fired" the next time he was LATE for work.
"Rat's" a pretty good ol'boy who might ease on into Rockin' Ray's Tavern and drink so many beers that he don't hear his alarm clock the next mornin', but other than that, "Rat" is a very valuable employee to Churchill Downs as you will soon see.
Well, "Rat" took the bag of money and immediately turned it in because he was sure it belonged to Churchill Downs.  Don't think Churchill Downs wasn't appreciative of "Rat's" honorable act.
To prove how appreciative, Churchill Downs gave "Rat" a $100 reward.
A hundred bucks! We have not been able to find out if Rat is still on probation or not.
Apparently this story was leaked to the media, who immediately wanted to follow up on the story, but were told by Churchill Downs officials that the incident never occurred.
They were probably scared all the stockholders would find out and sell their stock for fear Churchill's management team had sprung a leak.
So this is just another example of why Churchill Downs is such a great place, because of employees like Steve "Rat" Terry.
But ya know, it kind of makes ya wonder:
What do you think would have happened if Tom Meeker would have found that bag of money?

Neil Howard Is

Now A 9-Handicap

Even though this is Lane's End Farm Day at Keeneland, trainer Neil Howard will not be on hand to saddle Jazz Club in the Grade Three, Fayette Breeders' Cup.  That job will go to one of Neil Howard's top level assistants.
Not many people know this, but Neil Howard has been working on his golf game and just during the Saratoga Race Meet lowered his handicap from a 14 to a 9-handicap.
Neil Howard has a golf game this afternoon with Ronnie "Love Man" Ebanks, Mitch Shirota and Al Gore.
Reports are that if the golf match gets rained out the foursome plan to go bowling so there is virtually no chance that Neil Howard will be at Keeneland today.

Little Know Fact

Did you know that during the war with Iraq over 20,000 Iraqi troops surrendered to Allied Forces.  Of those, six were wearing red and blue Calumet Farm jackets

Malone's
The Best Steaks in "606"

Brian McCarty and every one at Malone's are very proud of the fact that they have become the #1 place for steaks in Lexington and all of Central Kentucky.
The local racing community has really taken to Malone's because every time Injun Chuck goes in the joint we see nothin' but owners, breeders, trainers and one extra large Sallee Van executive named, Don "Moon" Gamble.
To get to Malone's just take New Circle Road to Tates Creek and you will be two furlongs from the Lansdowne Shops where Malone's is located.  With so many people in town for the Keeneland Races, parties of five or more should definitely call ahead for reservations (606) 396-7500.

The Parting Glass II

This is the best thing to happen to Lexington, Kentucky since Sheikh Mohammed got into the horse business.
Joan Desadora, owner of the Parting Glass Irish Pub in Saratoga Springs, New York has recently opened the Parting Glass II at Harrodsburg Road and Layne Allen Drive (in the old "Shooters" location).
For those of you who have been to Saratoga, we don't need to tell you.  For those of you who haven't, the Parting Glass is, plain and simple, the best place to go have a good time--period.
Lexington's Parting Glass will offer the same great beers from around the world as well as a great food menu--including Injun Chuck's favorite, french fried sweet potatoes.
The Parting Glass II, it just opened on October 1st and its already Lexington, Kentucky's #1 watering hole.  Check it out.  (606) 278-0815.

Artax Is One Fast Animal

Ol'Artax has done did it again.  He recently won the Grade One, Vosburgh Handicap.  That's two Grade Ones this year.  This spring he won Aqueduct's Grade One, Carter Handicap, running the fastest Beyer speed figure posted this year (123).  In doing so he eclipsed the track record held for so many years by the great, Dr. Fager.
Artax is by Vinery stallion Marquetry.

Artax was bred, raised and sold by Vinery.
